Message from Our Head of Department

Dear Students

Our department, which has been operating within our Biga Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences since 1995, is related to the social dimension of economics and aims to train the human resources that stand out with innovation in the information society in the field of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations in the most equipped way. Within this framework, our department tries to provide a solid background to our students with a wide range of courses in social policy, labor economics, industrial relations, labor law, social security, sociology of work, psychology of work, human resources, unionism and collective bargaining. On the other hand, in order for our students to adapt to the developing world and constantly updated working life conditions, Human Resources, Career Management, Crisis and Stress Management etc. courses aim to provide them with the knowledge and experience they may need when entering and working in business life.

Since the industrial society, "work" has been at the very center of human life, and it is of great importance to systematically classify, research and interpret all kinds of issues related to working life, especially to analyze the issues related to labor supply on an individual basis and globally. Therefore, these issues are covered extensively in our theoretical courses. On the other hand, the industry-technology integration called Industry 4.0, which deeply affects and almost completely reshapes working life today, is another main theme of our courses, and our students are ensured to follow current issues in working life with topics such as "internet of things", "big data", "robots", "artificial intelligence" etc. in our course contents. In this context, university-industry cooperation studies are carried out in order to closely follow the working life and labor market and to ensure that our graduates can find a job more easily, and we are trying to initiate compulsory internship practice as well as voluntary internship for our students.

On the other hand, the field of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations is an interdisciplinary field and while examining all kinds of issues, institutions, rules and ideas that concern working life as a whole, it also benefits from other disciplines such as economics, business administration, sociology, psychology, law, public administration, finance, etc. This quality of our department offers students the opportunity to benefit from many different disciplines and to have knowledge in different fields. Our graduates find job and career opportunities in many different fields in the public and private sectors and are also preferred in the field of human resources.

With its strong and competent academic staff consisting of 3 professors, 3 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, 3 doctoral faculty members and 4 research assistants, our department successfully carries out doctorate, master's degree programs with and without thesis.
As the academicians of the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations, our greatest ideal is to explain to you, our esteemed students, all aspects of working life in the best way and to guide you both in your life journey and in your career journey. We sincerely hope that you will be able to find jobs and professions that you will deal with with happiness and pleasure by evaluating your time in our department efficiently, and we would like you to know that we are always with you to help you on this path.

With our love,

Prof. Dr. Suat Ugur

Head of the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations
